A Look Back

7:45 PM Laura 0 Comments

I just thought it might be interesting to share with you some stats about my blog.

Most viewed posts:
And let's put that in conjunction with the top search words that direct to my site (I've combined like terms):
  • twilight sparkle
  • opi roadhouse blues
  • opi rainbow connection
  • draco malfoy hot
  • essie trophy wife
For reasons that baffle me, searches for the My Little Pony Twilight Sparkle are by far the highest bringer of traffic to my site with 4,183 searches, whereas Roadhouse Blues in second place has a measly 531. That's kind of terrifying. I'm not sure if this is a good thing or not.

Oh, and of course another one of my top posts is a picture of a shirtless Tom Felton (who plays Draco Malfoy) and some blondies (as in food, you weirdos. They're like butterscotch brownies). I really don't know how I feel about that.

As far as technology goes, my blog is mostly viewed on Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer, and most people that read my blog are PCs (they're in first at 70%, Macs are in second at 18%).

And the countries that look at my blog the most are:
  • United States
  • Canada
  • United Kingdom
  • Australia
  • Netherlands
Since I'm reflecting on the past year (or really I should say 9 months, since I only started my blog at the end of March), let me ask you: how do you think I'm doing? Should I post more My Little Ponies and hot men for your enjoyment?

This is probably the most glorious thing I've ever made. I hope my mom (who will be reading this eventually) can forgive me.

May your new year be filled with nail polish, happiness, My Little Ponies, and many, many hot men.

Revlon Mistletoe

7:45 PM Laura 0 Comments

Oh my gosh guys I have so many draft posts it's not even funny. I'm trying to condense things down into a huge spam post and then I'll post collections together so hopefully I can get organized soon! I hate clutter... Anyway, today we've got a wintry polish.

OMG THESE HEADPHONES WILL NOT STAY IN MY EARSSS WTFFF. They're those annoying kind with the little caps on them, they're just round and they don't really seem to have any way of staying in one's ears. Usually I can get them to stay by twisting them in a certain way except I just took a shower so I guess my ears are slippery and they won't stick. This is so annoying. Just thought I'd share.

Aaaanywho...

Revlon Mistletoe. I did a bottle shot a la Fingers who always takes pictures in random places. So this picture is on the edge of a birdbath.

Oh, and I also dotted Sally Hansen Nail Prisms Diamond on the tips. Hopefully I will be posting all of my prisms in a single post soon... Anywho, it's a really awesome effect so you should enlargen the sun pics. Or you know, all of them.

2 coats. Mistletoe is a murky charcoal/brown/green polish with some gold shimmer that's slightly muted by the base. Quite interesting, as mistletoe is not exactly what I would associate this color with, but that's okay.

The formula was nice (I think, gosh I don't even remember when I wore this) but it didn't dry as shiny as I wanted it to. I put two coats of topcoat on but for some reason it just wasn't working for me, so I just let it be.

Okay, on a completely unrelated note, why did nobody ever tell me how hot James Dean was? I just saw East of Eden last night and I'm pretty sure he has ruined all other males for me.

*sigh* I rest my case.

The Thursday Post

7:45 PM Laura 0 Comments

100 Years - Five for Fighting. I was really tempted to do another country song, but I know it's not everyone's cup of tea so I refrained. Not to mention this song is full of win.

It's too late for Christmas, but maybe you can still find a use for these freaking awesome science-y gifts. I'm sure Larie will find this stuff as cool as I do.

Aww, are these adorable or what?

Okay, some things in life are just awesome. Here you go. Please tell me that's not insanely creative. I think my favorite is the French fry spider and the ketchup packet cockroach, although of course I love the nail polish one.

I'm sure some of you can sympathize: I am addicted to lip balm. So I was quite pleased when I saw this post. I've always wanted to try the Korres Lip Butters, maybe now I will!

Of course, what would the Thursday Post be without awesome pictures? Voila. They're all amazingly beautiful, but I think the second one is my favorite.

Three words: homemade peppermint patties.

To make up for the lack of posts the past two days, I have some nail wheel spam for you.

Hits Lambada, Hits Artemis (this is WAAAAY more holo in real life), Ozotic 505 (all over black)

Nails Inc. Trafalgar Square (by itself on the left, over black on the right), unnamed green foil snowman polish in the middle.

a-england Perceval and Iseult

Butter London Tart With a Heart (over black on the far left, alone in the middle) and The Black Knight

Deborah Lippmann Across the Universe, Don't Tell Mama, Naked

Remember those frankens I showed you forever ago? Well I made some more. (I couldn't find any of the WnW bottles I had sitting around, so I finally gave up looking and bought some more) Please enlargen these to view them in their full glory.

(I need to thin up the pink one so the holo glitter shows through more)

The white and taupe one aren't done, they need a little something more.

The whole family (so far)

If you're wondering what this collection is for, I'll give you a hint. Each polish is inspired by a character from a cancelled TV show. There are going to be 10 polishes in all. If you can guess what it is then I'll... well I'll think you're awesome. And I might come up with a prize, if you're lucky.

Happy Thursday!

Christmas NOTD

7:45 PM Laura 0 Comments

Okay, now the computer is behaving itself and I can belatedly show you my Christmas nails!

Yay! I'm pretty sure you can tell what all these things are, or else I'm slightly worried about you. For the base I again used my NFL Saints gold foil (holy guacamole that stuff's awesome) and for the red, I used Essie One of a Kind, for the brown I used Essie Little Brown Dress, for the green I used Finger Paints ________ and for the white I used Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Whirlwind White.

It's all freehanded, I found my freehand brush! *cheers ensue* So hopefully I'll be doing more freehanding in the future, at least after I work my way through all my new babies! I'll show them to you in just a moment. (you might noticed I'm holding one of them because it was the closest bottle at hand...)

On my right hand, I did the gold foil again, plus China Glaze Twinkle Lights.

I hated Twinkle Lights over green but I absolutely love it over gold! It's so pretty and sparkly, and it works perfectly. Hallelujah, because I don't think I could bear getting rid of it (it came as part of a set and then I would have this empty slot where it's supposed to go, and that would just bug me for the rest of my life).

All right, are you ready for my Christmas haul? I'm pretty sure I just heard a resounding YES, which is troubling because there's no one here so it's probably just the voices in my head. Oh well!

*squee* OMG LOOK AT ALL THAT STUFF. We've got:
- Butter London Black Knight/Tart With a Heart Duo
- Nails Inc. Magnetic Effect Trafalgar Square
- Speciallità Hits Lambada and No Olimpo Artemis
- a england Iseult and Perceval
- Ozotic 505
- Deborah Lippmann Across the Universe, Naked, and Don't Tell Mama
an adorable green foil snowman polish!

AND OMG I GOT A HELMERRRRRRR. (thanks mom & dad!)

For those of you that have no idea what I'm talking about, a helmer is a little file-cabinet like thing that you can get at Ikea, and it's handy-dandy for storing nail polish because the drawers are just the right height. Here is where my polish is living currently:

Yeah... there's not enough room in the buckets so I've just started piling things around the sides. So helmer = muy bueno. I'll take pictures of it when I get all the stuff transferred! IT'S GOING TO BE SO BEAUTACIOUS.

I won't bore you with pictures of the non-nail related stuff, because it's mostly Saints things. As in the New Orleans Saints. I love them soooo much... I love my Texans too, don't worry. They hold equal parts of my heart. I really just love football in general, I know some of you might find that a little (read: a lot) weird, but I pretty much watch any football game that I can possibly see.

Aaanyway... I hope you had the most bodacious of Christmases and I wish you a radical New Year! Get anything particularly gnarly that you'd like to share?

Merry Christmas

7:45 PM Laura 0 Comments

Okay, you get two Christmas manis today since I didn't post yesterday. Lucky you! First up I've got some lovely Christmas skittles

On my thumb is a-england Tristam, index is the NFL Saints polish, middle is Elianto Racing Green, ring is Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Celeb City, pinky is Orly Emberstone.

I've seen this design on many blogs so I can't give credit to anyone in particular. I really like this design, it was easy to do and come on, it's adorable.

Also, I think that I now love foils. I used to think foils, especially metallic colored ones, were completely meh. Here, let's use some visuals.

How I used to feel about foils:

How I feel about foils now:

The gold NFL polish and Celeb City are just freaking awesome. They're so sparkly and FANTABULICIOUS. And they're so flattering, too... looooove them. I need every foil in existence now.

I have some awesomer Christmas nails that I did for today, except freaking Blogger is being stew-pod and not cooperating with me. So I'll have to show you those tomorrow. It'll prolong the Christmas joy!

Anywho, I'll also show you my Christmas haul tomorrow. So how was your Christmas? Get anything super awesome?

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas...

7:45 PM Laura 0 Comments

And sadly, a dream it will remain. No chance of snow down here in Houston, sadly. We did have actually for realz snow two years ago, but I doubt it will happen again any time soon.

Anyway, to drown my sorrows of living in a snow-less land, I decided to do a snowy manicure. I started with two coats of Love & Beauty Royal

I scrounged this one out of the polish bins at Forever 21 (who is trying to look all shwanky with their new logo, XXI, like Roman numerals makes them more sophisticated. Psh.) pretty much unscathed, although the other two I grabbed I had to wipe down with acetone. Anyway, it is super pretty, it's got a murky teal base full of duochrome glitter flecks that turn from blue to purple. It's pretty awesome, but since I was pining for snow I decided to stamp over it.

Okay, in all honesty, when I first saw this stamp I thought it was a wheel. You know, like a ship's steering wheel. Is there a certain name for that? I'm pretty sure it's not called a "steering wheel," it must be something more classy. Anyway, after seeing other people use the stamp on the interwebz I realized it was a snowflake. Oops, my bad. After I stamped the snowflakes on, I slapped on a layer of Sally Hansen Diamond Strength Diamonds because really, what does glitter not improve? (hint: NOTHING)

I like how this one turned out, it's pretty. It's not WOW but I'm saving that for Christmas day, so hold on to your tacky sweaters, kiddos.

Are you going to have a white Christmas? If so, please take pictures so I can live vicariously through you.

P.S. It still looks like a ship's wheel to me...

The Thursday Post

7:45 PM Laura 0 Comments

Beautiful Wreck - Shawn Mullins. I seem to have quickly become inexplicably obsessed with country music. Not just any country music, though: I don't want Carrie Underwood and Blake Shelton and Shania Twain, I mean those unknown yee-haw country guys who sing about trucks and fishing. And this country song, which is a little more sophisticated.

Are you one of the people who believes that the world is going to end in 365 days? Here is an article that might make you feel better. Or maybe worse, if you're into the whole apocalypse thing.

Oh my GOD yes. Girl scout cookies are awesome. Samoas are indeed the best kind. Coconut + caramel + chocolate? Ugh. And in bark form!?!?! I DIE.

How about some holiday-themed Lynnderella polish?

I really want to do this but I probably wouldn't be able to deal with how ridiculously time-consuming it would be.

Have you ever wondered about the 100 most beautiful words in the English language? Well there they are. My personal favorite (lachrymose) isn't on there, but I am fond of effervescent, lagniappe, and panacea.

I think I could actually do this! My friend Anna makes shirts and stuff using paint, but that's too time-consuming for me.

These are some of the most beautiful landscapes I've ever seen. Just to give you an idea of why you should look:

Happy Thursday! If you've seen any links you'd like to share, we'd love to see them!

Christmas Lights

7:45 PM Laura 0 Comments

For my next Christmas mani, I decided to do something I've seen on one or two other blogs (sorry, I don't remember which ones they were, otherwise I would give credit where credit is due for such a snazzy idea!). I did a sort of funky French with Christmas lights.

For the base gold color, I used my one coat of the gold polish that came in the Saints NFL polish set. A one coater! I'm so impressed! Definitely more than I expected from the NFL, haha. The gold is super sparkly and blingy, it's so awesome. The bottle is honestly hard to look at in the sunlight. It was hard to take the sun pics cause I was like OH MY GOD IT'S BLINDING ME MY EEEEYES but in an awesome way.

For the lights, I used a black Kiss nail art pen and then I put little splops of nail polish along it, and glitter of the same color on the splops to make the lights. I love this mani, it's really adorable and Christmasy, and this gold is just so freaking awesome.

Oh and I ventured into a Forever 21 for the first time today. I had to wait for some tweens to stop digging through the polish, and when I was finally able to take a look myself I was unpleasantly surprised to see that all the polish was unceremoniously dumped into bins with no seeming order. I had heard that this is how it was, but for some reason I thought that any Forever 21 I would come across would miraculously be different and have their polish organized and waiting for me. After some digging, I located the awesome green flakie one that I was looking for. It has obviously been used and people got some other kind of polish on it too (WTH, who gets a whole different polish around the rim of the bottle?) Anyway, I bought it nonetheless because it was the only one of its kind that I could find.

Okay, this has been a long post. I'll stop talking now.
