I'll Be Back

8:06 PM Laura 1 Comments

So hi guys. I've been pretty bad at posting lately, as I think we can all agree. For some reason I've just not been feeling very motivated lately and it's hard to try posting almost every day. I feel like I've been kind of losing steam because I feel obligated to post as much as possible and I never feel like doing any interesting nail art or stamping or anything. I know I'm probably boring you guys and I feel like I'm not really that funny anymore, for some reason things don't just occur to me. This blog has kind of turned into work. Not because I don't enjoy painting my nails, and not because I don't like you guys, because I do. I'm just kind of busy with school lately and this blog is definitely just adding to my stress load because I feel guilty whenever I don't post here, so I just make some stupid little post that's really not that interesting with some polish that I wore a million years ago and it's kind of lame and I'm definitely not as awesome as a bunch of other great bloggers who have really entertaining, informative posts and post regularly unlike myself.

Also, I have gotten waaaaaaay behind on all of you guys' blogposts. I just checked and I have exactly 500 posts in my Google reader. I don't know if I'll manage to catch up on all of them so forgive me if I haven't commented in a while. The more behind I get, the less I want to catch up because I feel so guilty for not commenting on all you guys' stuff because I am a horrible blogger and you all deserve better.

So... I think what I'm trying to say is, I'm not really sure where I stand right now with continuing this blog. I don't want to just quit because it is something that I used to enjoy, it's just lately that it's been causing me stress. I'm thinking I'll take a break until the end of May/the beginning of June so that I can just relax and focus on school. I'll try to catch up on your posts and I'll keep commenting on all your blogs, I just won't be posting here. Maybe every once in a while, if I'm not too busy and I feel like it then I'll post but it'll probably be infrequent and random. And you can always give me a holla if you want to chat, you know.

Anyway... in conclusion, I love you all and I do plan to come back! I won't just leave you hangin', I promise.

Sephora + OPI ILLY

7:54 PM Laura 0 Comments

Whaddup whaddup my homies.

Let's dive right in, shall we?

o hai kitteh

This is 2 coats of a nice Sephora polish that I got cheap in a 3-pack, I'm not sure what it's called. It's a purple foil that's nearly opaque in one coat, but I did two for good measure. The formula was absolutely lovely, although the brush is rather large and wide and paddle-like which was unpleasant but not impossible.

And then I slapped on two coats of OPI I Lily Love You which I haven't used in a while, so I felt like it could use some love.

Mmm I just love all the flakies and glitter mixed in all together. So pretty!

I don't really have much else to say other than I am obsessed with this song.

Feel So Close - Calvin Harris

And I've probably listened to it at least 20 times today. That is all. I wish you a good evening!

Hello my beautiful followers, I love you all! How are you wonderful people today?

Today I've got a mani that I've seen a few times around the blogosphere, and it started with OPI Cajun Shrimp. Then I used a black nail art pen to outline my nails all around the edges. The pen cracked a little bit as it dried, but you get the idea.

Unfortunately my nails are ridiculously curvy so it's kind of hard to see the outlining on the edges sometimes, but I like this idea overall! It's pretty cool and I like the red-and-black combo.

Have you taken any exciting journeys into nail-art land recently? Anything new, or maybe something you finally got around to trying? I'd like to see! :)

China Glaze Smoke and Ashes + Luxe and Lush

7:45 PM Laura 2 Comments

All righty, here is our second-to-last installment of the Hunger Games series! At least everything I got from it. Today's mani begins with Smoke and Ashes, which represents district 12.

Wow I'm really feeling like I should do a reswatch of this because this looks like poop compared to the actual thing. This is two coats of Smoke and Ashes, which is a black polish with loads of blue/green/gold? shimmer. It's very nice and I like it a lot.

Now I also picked up Luxe and Lush so I decided to try it on top of Smoke and Ashes.

Luxe and Lush is the type of flakie topcoat that has the broken mirror sort of look, the edges are more jagged and sharp looking and it doesn't lie as flat as most flakies. The formula wasn't the best and it was kind of hard to get the distribution right but with a little adjustment all was well. I'd like to try this one over a wider variety of colors as well, I'm sure there are many interesting possibilities out there! Have you guys tried any cool combos with Luxe and Lush? Have any suggestions for me? I'm all ears!

China Glaze Riveting

7:45 PM Laura 2 Comments

Oookay so Blogger has a completely new layout from my side of things and it is a whole different animal, so if things look a little strange I must ask your forgiveness! I'll hopefully get the hang of it soon. It looks cool... just... weird.

Me too, Niall, me too. But we'll get through it.

But anyway, today I have yet another Hunger Games beauty to share with you! This is China Glaze Riveting and it's for district.... 3. I think? I should google this stuff.

This is two coats. Riveting is a bright, vivid orange jelly with lots of gold shimmer. It's extremely eye-catching and vivacious, I really like it! I used to really hate orange polish because it makes me look like a zombie, and you should all know by now that I have a legitimate, crippling fear of zombies and therefore I avoided orange polish like last season's Ugg boots.

But, I have been slowly coming around and easing myself into orange polish with beauties like this one. Riveting is absolutely wonderful and doesn't make me look like a zombie at all.

The formula was absolutely dreamy. I give Riveting a resounding A+!

Louis and Harry think so too. What do YOU think?

China Glaze Fast Track

7:45 PM Laura 1 Comments

So today I have my second selection from the China Glaze Hunger Games collection, Fast Track.

This is 2 coats. Fast Track is a slightly pinky brown nude with a heavy dusting of gold shimmer. I don't remember which district this is for... whoops.

The formula was very nice, no problems to report, she didn't make any trouble!

Sorry if I'm a little subdued, I'm pretty tired today. I had a big lunch with two of my besties and then let Ed Sheeran sing me to sleep... had a pretty nice nap. :) How was your day?

And the winner is...

7:45 PM Laura 0 Comments

All right everyone, we have a winner but I'm going to have to keep you in suspense a little longer because I'm more than a little irritated right now.

So I like having these contests. You guys are great and I want to reward you for being wonderful followers and I just love you all so much. I want you guys to be able to vote and have this be anonymous so it can be as fair as possible. The reason that I'm hesitant about declaring the winner myself is because I don't want anyone to think I'm picking favorites, I want this to be up to you guys since I'm doing it all for you.

And so when I get around 200 votes for this contest, and 200 are for one name, I try not to be suspicious. But when they're all in huge chunks and the timestamp is seconds apart, it makes me mad.

This rant is not for all of you. This rant is for the one of you who made up over 50 fake emails in order to manipulate this contest. I'm not going to call you out because you know who you are and I hope you're ashamed. I can't believe you thought I would be stupid enough not to get wary when I saw how you were winning by a landslide.

Honestly I had expected a lot more integrity, I'm surprised anyone would be so blatantly deceptive and manipulative, and I hope I never run into this problem again in the future. I will be much more hesitant when it comes to contests and voting. In any contests I ever have later on, I will probably be picking all the winners myself because I don't want this to happen again.

I emailed every single address that was entered and when I started noticing that all of the ones that returned errors had voted for a certain name, I decided to save myself some trouble and invalidate that person entirely. I hope you're happy, because you did this to yourself. You probably did the same thing to get past the first round of voting, and you took some other honest person's spot. Please do not ever come back to my blog again.

Yeah. I had some appropriate gifs and I figured they might lighten the mood.

ANYWAY. Now that I've gotten that off my chest, let's announce the REAL winner! I just emailed her, so let's hear it for

Whitney!
and her name "Take Me to Blueberry Sky"

Congratulations Whitney! I'll give you a day or two to claim your prize.

Thank you so much to everyone who entered, this has been absolutely ridiculous and time-consuming but I need to remind you guys that I love you.

And that concludes this post. *gavel bang*

Zoya Kristen + Essie As Gold As It Gets

7:45 PM Laura 0 Comments

Helloooo everyone! How are you on this fine April the 14th? Well, I hope?

Today I am going to share with you Zoya Kristen topped with the versatile Essie As Gold As It Gets.

Ah, so lovely. This is two coats of Kristen followed by one of As Gold As It Gets. I love the subtle, antiqued effect, it's so delicate and pretty.

All right everyone, two things I want to ask about.

1. Would you care sharing the links to your favorite indie polish brands? I've been itching to get some lately, and Ninja Polish is always sold out. Stuff like NerdLacquer and Lacquerized, and there's so many others I can't think of right now.

2. I have gotten a freaking bajillion votes for the contest and the vast majority are for one name. By vast majority I mean no one else is even remotely close, which gives me slight pause. I'm going to send a verification email to all of the addresses that were entered in the voting just to check things out since I want this to be as fair as possible. Just a heads up in the interest of full disclosure! The winner will be announced tomorrow.

May you all have a lovely weekend!

China Glaze Stone Cold

7:45 PM Laura 1 Comments

Wow... did I just miss a million days in a row? It feels like I've been gone forever. I did not mean to just up and disappear like that! I just got completely sucked into chaos, sorry!

PLEASE FORGIVE ME

Why do I have so many Louis gifs.... no matter.

Moving swiftly onwards! Today I will be showing you (somewhat belatedly) one of the polishes I picked up from the China Glaze Hunger Games collection, Stone Cold.

This is 2 coats. Stone Cold is a black polish with a whole bunch of lovely silver microglitter. It is really very pretty and the shimmer seems to break into a bunch of different colors in bright sun when you look closely.

The formula was absolutely dreamy, so lovely!

It dries matte, so I naturally had to see how it looked shiny.

OMG is it just me or is it even awesomer? So pretty! Matte is cool and all, but I just can't stand to see beautiful shimmer go to waste like this! It is so amazing in the sun, even better than it looks in pictures.

Have you guys seen the Hunger Games? I went to the midnight premiere. It was pretty good, I thought, but not as amazing as I was hoping for it to be. Elizabeth Banks and Stanley Tucci were definitely my favorites acting-wise, they were both wonderful. Jennifer Lawrence was good too, I just personally don't like Katniss very much. But from what I've seen of her in interviews I want to be her best friend, ugh she's so awesome.

Oh, and also, this literally made me LOL:

Yeah. That pretty much sums it up.

Easter nails and Final Voting!

7:55 PM Laura 0 Comments

Good evening, ladies! I hope you've all had a wonderful Easter. I, for one, am stuffed to the brim and probably won't be eating again until sometime around November. I just can't resist jelly beans and Cadbury Creme Eggs, which are pretty much pure sugar. They are delicious. All in all a satisfying day.

I did a wee bit of nail art to mark the occasion!

The flowers smeared a bit and the egg is dented, but ah well. You get the point. If you want to know about any of the colors, just ask away!

The first round of voting has come to a close, and we now have six final names that you guys will pick a lucky winner from! Since I'm too lazy to re-upload all the pictures to this post, HERE are the pictures of the franken you are naming if you need a refresher.

Thank you so much to everyone who entered! There were some names that I really loved, you guys were so creative! I have to give a shoutout to some of my favorites that didn't make the cut:

-You Blue It, Baby!
-Laura's Theme (for obvious reasons)
-Sunken Treasure
-Disco Lagoon
-Gaudy Pool Party
-Azure Hurricane

But you are all so creative and wonderful and I love you.
