Eine kleine nail art

7:45 PM Laura 0 Comments

So I was trying to think of a clever title for this post, since it's not just a swatch, and since it has to do with music, I thought of "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik" by Mozart, which means "a little bit of night music" and voila! The title was born.

So for this design, I used Sally Hansen Insta Dri Whirlwind White for the base, then I put China Glaze Ghoulish Glow over it, and then I used a Kiss Nail Art Pen that Leslie sent me (thank you Leslie!) because I kept using a Sharpie to do nail art. I needed an intervention and she was kind enough to step in. That's what friends are for!

It's a little shaky, probably because I didn't leave enough time between the coats so it was a little thick and not totally dry, and because I was getting the hang of it. I had wanted to do piano nail art for a while but I had no stamping plates for it, so this pen came at just the right time! It's really handy and has a nice fine tip, and it flows pretty easily. The one thing I must warn you about is that it will rub off, so you need to put a topcoat on it to save your design.

Yes, it did glow in the dark, but unfortunately my camera was not sensitive enough to pick it up. :( It wasn't like super awesome glowing, but it was sweet nonetheless.

Anyway, I'm content with how these turned out but I'd like to try them again in the future. I really need to start doing nail art again, except since I lost the teensy brush I use for nail art all I have are the pens Leslie sent me (which are really great but I can't do anything in color since I've only got them in black and white) so I'll work on nail art as soon as I get my butt down to Hobby Lobby to buy some more brushes.

I'd love to hear your suggestions for nail art, too! Sometimes I have trouble finding inspiration so I'd like to hear your ideas.

Orly Androgynie

7:45 PM Laura 0 Comments

And another Orly, this time one that's actually from their holiday collection.

Androgynie

These pics are all better in full size, FYI.

This is like super smexy guys
Look at what flash does! See those little holo twinkles?

2 coats. Androgynie has a smoky black base, and it's full of tiny gold flecks, small holo glitter, and larger iridescent blue, green, and yellowish glitter. It's quite a complex polish and undoubtedly gorgeous, but the glitter has a tendency to sink and it's really hard to get any of the big glitter on the brush and onto your nails.

The formula was good, except for the sinking glitter which is annoying. This polish could have almost scored a phoenix on the celery to unicorn scale, but because of the glitter issue I'll have to drop it to rainbows.

Also, I did a bunch of jelly sandwich layering combos, and I can't decide which I like best! If you guys all vote then I'll do the one that gets the most!

Let's call these options 1, 2, and 3.

Options 4, 5, and 6

Now we've got 3, 2, and 1 in the sun

and 6, 5, and 4.

I'm interested to hear your picks! In other news, I just started a tumblr for no good reason. I will definitely put nail stuff on there but I'm not going to restrict it to just nail things, so if you'd care to check it out then here it is. There's pretty much absolutely nothing on there right now because I need to get the hang of it, but if you have a tumblr I'd love to follow you (and it would also boost my confidence if you followed me :)

Orly Meet Me Under the Mistletoe

7:45 PM Laura 0 Comments

Today I have for you my First Official Holiday Manicure. Yes folks, you read that right: the holiday season has started (at least in my mind). I am READY for Christmas, y'all. I don't know if you know this (although that's a dumb question, how on earth would you know this?) but I LOVE the holidays. Once Halloween hits, I spend every spare minute thinking about the span of time between November 1st and January 2nd. I. Love. Festivity. I'm a super excitable person, so generally I get SUPER psyched up about Christmas around halfway through November, and I start listening to Christmas music and everyone is all burned out on Christmas spirit but I'm still going strong!

...aaaanyway, today's manicure starts with Orly Meet Me Under the Mistletoe.

I guess you could call this my First Official Backup (I like capitalization, can you tell?) since I bought a mini size of this but it was so beautiful that I didn't want to use it and I am still hoarding it to this day. That's why I never buy minis, because I literally cannot bring myself to use them.

SUPER gorgeous closeup guys

BEAUTIMOUS

2 coats. Meet Me Under the Mistletoe (that is how you do cute, clever names, OPI) is an evergreen polish full of shimmer flecks. It's also got a slight blueish tinge. It's super awesomely beautiful. The formula is okay, not awesome but not bleh.

Since I was in such a festive mood, I decided to do a little stamping to match my holiday mood.

My bottle of Milani Gold Lame (accent on the e, blah blah blah too lazy) is getting really thick, eugh. I need to thin that up. Anywho, that's what I used for the tips and the stamp, and I just used a toothpick to make the dots with Revlon Cherry. Easy peasy, and FESTIVE! Unfortunately, when I did this, the weather was being a major bummer and not matching my holiday cheer. It was warm. It's getting nice and chilly now, though! (and by chilly, I mean 50s/60s. Yep, that is defined as "chilly" down here in Houston.) I'll be honest, I'm not the hugest fan of cold weather, mostly because I don't really have the clothes for it since 90% of the time, it's HOT. But I definitely like the holiday mood it brings!

So have you had an Official Holiday Manicure yet? Any polishes that get you in the holiday mood? Do share!

China Glaze It's Alive!

7:45 PM Laura 0 Comments

And now for the next polish I got from the Halloween collection: It's Alive!

Ugh I have been so bad about taking pictures lately! Sorry there's no outdoor shots. :( This is 2 coats of It's Alive!, to be totally honest I'm not exactly sure what color the base is. I can't tell if it's charcoal, dark green, or brown, but it's probably some sort of mix of all of those. Let's just call it gross murky swamp water, shall we? It seems appropriate. The glitter is... chartreuse? I'll be honest, I just googled 'chartreuse' because I wasn't exactly sure what color it was. But upon googlage, I'm pretty sure this falls under the grand 'chartreuse' umbrella, aka the 'why oh why did people think this was an attractive color' category.

It wasn't too thick like most glitters are, it was very nice and manageable.

Oh, and the set came with China Glaze Black Mesh so I decided to use it, but of course I accidentally deleted the pictures. :| Luckily I snapped a shot of my thumb while I was just testing it out to see how it shattered.
As you can see, it shatters very nicely. So I'm mad I didn't get pictures of it, although this nail did crack the best.

Btdubbs, I went to see the Muppets movie today. Um, it's kind of awesome. I love feel good movies where the plot doesn't necessarily make sense as long as everything ends up okay and is funny along the way, so if you're like me, then you will like this movie THE END. Also if you think Jason Segel is adorable (cause he totally is).  And I kind of want to adopt Beaker. MEEP MEEP MEEP! So glad I bought that nail polish. I'm really tempted to grab the whole rest of the collection now!

The Thursday Post

7:45 PM Laura 0 Comments

Roxanne - The Police. Sometimes you just need a good classic rock song, and this is it.

I love these photo galleries. There are a lot of great photos in there, but since some of you guys said it'd be easier if I just put the pictures in the post I decided to include my favorite:

Isn't that the most gorgeous thing you've ever seen? It's a ladybug covered in dew.

I am so so so excited for the shimmer part of OPI's Holland collection. They all look stunning. Then again, Fashion Polish makes everything look stunning.

This looks ridiculously awesome and also ridiculously time-consuming.

Don't see it? That's a person. Painted like a bookshelf. Mind. Blown.

Also, I went to the zoo this yesterday! Here are some pictures I took:

This meerkat was just lying on his side like this. So cute!

Isn't that a cool looking bird? Its eyes freak me out.

This monkey was SO TINY. SO CUTE.

Aww da widdle baby ewephant!

This fox was so still it looked like a statue. Look at him all curled up!

The cheetah was hard to get a picture of since it just kept pacing. Poor cheetah, I bet it wanted to run. :(

The lioness was quite majestic, she looks so regal.

This is the only decent picture I got of the panther, it was pacing like the cheetah.

I don't know what this is but I can't decide if it's hideous or adorable.

I kid you not, this monkey is green. One of the strangest monkeys I've ever seen!

LOOK. AT. HIS. TAIL. I couldn't even get it all in one shot! This monkey was so adorable, he would barely sit still and kept bothering the other monkey it was with.

Is this not the most beautiful duck you've ever seen? He reminds me of origami.

And that's all for today's Thursday Post! Don't forget to check out Larie's!
